Renaming of wards at our Ellesmere Port Site

As of 1 August 2016 Ellesmere Port Hospital will be changing the names of their wards as follows:

• Ruby and Diamond ward will be collectively known as Bluebell Unit
• Emerald ward will become Poppy Unit

These changes are in line with changes that have been taking place across the hospital in recent months, including; the opening of ‘Kate’s Corner’, Memory Lane and the implementation of a new discharge to assess model of care the unit has been following since May this year.

Discharge to assess brings a number of benefits for patients and families and removes many of the barriers that have delayed discharge in the past. It has allowed for the establishment of closer links with community colleagues, and facilitates a timely and safe transfer of care between hospital and home as soon as patients no longer require acute hospital care.

The final names chosen were the favourites of a selection put to patients, staff and relatives and were selected because the fact the site of the hospital was originally a forested area.
